Frequently asked questions

For hands that reach for a phone before the brain has decided to. Everything else is below.

What is Just Fidgeting?

Just Fidgeting is a minimalist iOS app that recreates the satisfying motion of using your phone: tapping, scrolling, swiping, flipping switches, with none of the content. No feed, no posts, no videos. Just the movement your hands were actually after. It's a small collection of tactile fidgets with haptic feedback, and that's the whole app.

Is it like scrolling TikTok but without the content?

Pretty much, yes. The urge to scroll usually isn't about what's on the screen. It's about the motion and the feeling. Just Fidgeting gives you that loop: the infinite scroll, the swipe, the pull-to-refresh. But there's nothing at the bottom to fall into. No algorithm, no rabbit hole. It's the scrolling loop, minus the doom.

Does it have ads?

No. No ads, no banners, no pop-ups, no sponsored fidgets. The whole app is quiet on purpose. It's free to download, with one optional purchase for the extras, and that's the only thing I'll ever ask you to buy.

Do you collect or sell my data?

No. I don't sell your data or use it for advertising, and I never will. Everything you actually do in the app stays on your device. The only thing that ever leaves is anonymous, aggregate usage stats, roughly how often the app gets opened, so I can tell it's being used. None of it is tied to you or your identity.

Is it free? What's in Pro?

The app is free, and the free version includes a full set of fidgets, plenty to keep your hands busy. There's an optional one-time purchase, Just Fidgeting Pro, that unlocks extra colour themes, alternate app icons, and additional fidgets. One payment, no subscription.

How can fidgeting help with focus or restlessness?

Plenty of people fidget to think: clicking a pen, bouncing a leg, spinning a ring. If you fidget because of ADHD, anxiety, or sensory needs, giving restless hands a small, repetitive thing to do can make it easier to sit with a moment instead of reaching for a feed. Just Fidgeting is built for exactly that: somewhere for nervous energy to go that doesn't pull you into an hour of scrolling. It isn't a medical tool and doesn't claim to treat anything. It's just a calmer place to put your hands.

What devices does it work on?

Just Fidgeting runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later. The haptic feedback feels best on devices with a Taptic Engine (iPhone 8 and newer).

Do I need an account or internet?

No account, no sign-up, no email. And no internet required. Everything runs locally on your device, so you can fidget on a plane, on the subway, or anywhere with no signal.

Who made Just Fidgeting?

Just me. I'm a product designer, and Just Fidgeting is a one-person project: I designed it, made it, and I'm the one reading these emails. It started with my own habit of reaching for my phone before I'd even decided to, so I made the thing I actually wanted instead. There's a longer version of the story on the About page.

Question I didn't cover? Email hello@justfidgeting.app. I read these myself, usually while procrastinating.
